The Silken Nightmare (Revised) by Carter Brown

Midnight, a silken sultry

She was dangerous, delicious, just like a dream.
The kind where you wake up screaming.

Grant Roberts Cover

Terror Comes Creeping
by Carter Brown

Danny Boyd goes on a back-to-nature kick that is murder

The beautiful brunette's mother had made her a millionaire. Now her father wanted to make her a corpse.

The brunette was very beautiful and very scared. She looked private Danny Boyd in the eye and shuddered once. Then she calmly told him that her father was planning on killing her. She claimed he had murdered her brother and was trying to get rid of her sister. And that she was third on the list. She had no proof to back her story, only cold green cash. She might be crazy, but she was also crazy rich. She was Danny's favorite kind of client. So Danny decided to take the lovely lady's case. And tag her father a killer.

5th Anniversary

Today marks this blogs 5th anniversary

This year, instead of rehashing the two book titles that got me started enjoying reading mysteries and spy stories. I will highlight the introduction of the characters of my favorite author, Mr Carter Brown. He brought into the world numerous characters with his stories and novelettes. He would settle on a handful of reoccurring characters, seven to be exact. His most famous would be Police Lieutenant Al Wheeler, in which he would appear from 1955 until 1984.

Al Wheeler (1955-1984)
Police Lieutenant in Pine City California

Danny Boyd (1957-1984)
New York City Private Eye that moves to California later in the series

Rick Holman (1961-1984)
Hollywood Trouble Shooter

Mavis Seidlitz (1955-1974)
Blonde private investigator with Gracie Allen tendencies

 Randal Robert (1971-1976)

Paul Donovan (1974-1979)

The Pipes Are Calling (1976) by Carter Brown

This month will be my second entry into Past Offences' monthly roundup of various blogs posts about crime fiction written or filmed in a particular year. For the month of September, the year of 1976 was chosen. I will post about the Carter Brown tale The Pipes Are Calling

The Pipes Are Calling
Carter Brown

A jet set beauty involves private eye Danny Boyd in her high powered world of orgies, investment's and cold blooded murder.

Corpse On A Chandelier
Private eye Danny Boyd and his beautiful buxom client Melanie Rigby walk right into a set up. The cabin was deserted, the lights were out, and Melanie's millionaire hubby was dangling above their heads with his throat slit. Boyd was not about to be the fall guy for anyone, especially when Melanie was ready to foot the bill if he could catch the killer. But in the tight-knit world of Santo Bahia's upper crust, pinning the knife blade on the murderer was no kid's game. Danny found his work really cut out for him when  he started playing hide-and-seek with the wealthiest people in town, but one orgy, kidnapping, and bed-to-bed leap later. Danny was almost convinced he had the killer. All he needed was a little more proof to slam the cell door on this stab-and-run artist. Unless his quarry twisted the knife into Danny first!

Crime Fiction Alphabet 2013: The Letter W: Part One

The Crime Fiction Alphabet keeps rolling along in the home stretch with just four weeks left. We are currently in week 23 with the letter W. Kerrie over at her blog Mysteries in Paradise is kind enough to host this community meme. The rules a quite simple. By Friday of each week participants write a blog post about crime fiction related to the letter of the week. The post must be related to either the first letter of a book's title, the first letter of an author's first name, or the first letter of the author's surname, or even maybe a crime fiction "topic". But above all, it has to be crime fiction. This time around I will be featuring a Carter Brown title for each letter of the alphabet.

Carter Brown: W is for The Wayward Wahine

The seductive rhythm of an exotic Hawaiian girl's primitive hula dance lures
Danny Boyd into the arms of a killer.

Barye Philips Cover
She was one hundred per cent impure Hawaiian. From her long and lustrous black hair to her small and delicate feet which moved as her whole body moved in a passionate pagan rhythm. With a sensuous gesture she stepped out of her grass skirt and into Danny Boyd's love life.

Robert McGinnis Cover

On the sunny shares of beautiful Hawaii, private Danny Boyd goes hunting for a wealthy tycoon's missing wife. The trail starts out cold with a dead blonde, warms up with some buried treasure, and sizzles when Danny comes into close contact with a wahine who is wayward, wanton, and oh so willing to pitch woo Hawaiian style. With the curves and kisses and no holds barred.
