Thriller (a.k.a. Boris Karloff's Thriller)

Host Boris Karloff introducing a mix of macabre horror tales and suspense thrillers.

Each episode was shot in eerie black and white and sometimes divided into two or sometimes even three separate tales. Boris Karloff himself acted in several episodes. The earlier entries lean more towards straight mystery and suspense, while later shows deal directly with horror and the occult. Boris would set the tone and prime the viewers for frightful and chilling dramatizations based on the works of some of the era's greatest writers in the genre—writers like Robert E. Howard, Cornell Woolrich, Richard Matheson, and Robert Bloch.

The partners investigate mysteries and protect clients with the sometime help of photographer Cricket Blake , who also sings at the hotel's Shell Bar, and a ukulele-playing cab driver Kim Quisado.

The Secret Empire (1979)

The adventures of a U.S. marshal in the Old West as he stumbles upon a futuristic underground city run by aliens.

In this homage to the cliffhanger serials of the '30s and '40s, 19th Century Wild West Marshal Jim Donner stumbled upon a secret underground city known as Chimera while chasing a gang of robbers. Chimera is lorded over by an evil despot named Thorval. Donner teams up with the resistance rebels in their effort to overthrow Thorval's cruel reign, while simultaneously investigating the gold robberies on the surface.

Banacek was an American detective TV series starring George Peppard that aired on the NBC network from 1972 to 1974. It was part of the rotating NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie anthology.

 

George Peppard played Thomas Banacek, a suave, Polish-American freelance investigator based in Boston, He solved seemingly impossible thefts. and then collects from the insurance companies 10% of the insured value of the recovered property. One of Banacek's verbal signatures was the quotation of strangely worded yet curiously cogent Polish proverbs.

Sam McCloud is a Deputy U.S. Marshal from Taos, New Mexico. He goes to New York to find an escaped criminal, and there falls for reporter Chris Coughlin, who is the cousin of the deputy police commissioner. After he tracks the criminal down, Chris convinces her cousin to request that Sam be assigned to temporary duty with the NYPD, to learn modern police methods. He is assigned to the detective bureau headed by Chief Peter B. Clifford, who is less than thrilled with having McCloud under his command and gives him nothing but menial duties But Sam always winds up deep in homicides, drug busts and various other major crimes, often helped out by Sgt. Joe Broadhurst, and solves them using a combination of good police work and good old country know-how.

 Jeff Foster goes undercover to take down a drug dealer. Part of his cover is to take flying lessons to get into contact with the company. He has to deal with how his religion will fit into a life of deceit and lies. Also a beautiful flying instructor.

Jeff Foster is a detective on the relatively small police force in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He's a devout member of his faith; he works hard, and he loves his life. But Jeff is about to experience things that no one in his mid-20s should have to experience, and his entire life is about to change because of it.  Jeff is involved in a night surveillance with his partner. They bust a small-time drug dealer, and police officials in Idaho Falls want more; they want information on the bigger dealer. The dope is clearly coming up from Las Vegas, through Salt Lake, and the guys in Idaho Falls want to know more about who in Las Vegas is moving the drugs and where they're ultimately coming from. The cops in Idaho and Vegas aren't the only ones who want that information. So does the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency, and it's ultimately up to Jeff Foster to go under cover to learn what he can.
