USA Fiction Challenge: New Jersey

The next stop on our journey to visit each and every state is the Garden State or New Jersey.

Unbalanced Accounts
by Kate Gallison

The year was 1977, when everybody smoked in the office, nobody earned a living wage, bosses called their clerks "my girls", and any idiot could get a job with the State of New Jersey. Onto this scene came down at heel Trenton divorce detective Nick Magaracz. Nick is looking for nine thousand dollars in stolen welfare checks and solving this case looked like a lead-pipe cinch, until the bodies began to fall.
